Literacy Instruction
You may be wondering how we are different? At Lakeside Literacy & Dyslexia, we offer a systematic structured Orton-Gillingham based approach. Structured literacy is explicit, sequential, systematic, prescriptive, diagnostic, and cumulative instruction. Through this approach we not only build the skills of a reader, but also target writing skills beyond spelling so that your child can develop their ideas in written form.
The Illinois State Board of Education reports that only 35% of third-eighth graders in Illinois could read at grade level in Spring of 2023.
As educators, we were never fully trained to meet the needs of the 65% of Illinois students that are not reading on grade level. Lakeside Literacy & Dyslexia uses an evidence-based curriculum needed to close these astonishing gaps.
We follow the Science of Reading. You can be confident that our time with your child is spent implementing current research and best practices in literacy. Struggling readers are often met with fear and anxiety. It is our job to equip your child with the tools to confidently navigate the world of language and writing. We’ll work hard to build a relationship with your child. We don’t believe in quizzing, putting your child on the spot or asking them to guess.
